BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Jan is the author of the book “Horse Trails in Arizona” by Golden West Publishers, 1998, and is currently completing an international publication for the Federal Highway Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation titled” Equestrian Design Guidelines for Trails, Trailheads, and Campgrounds.” Jan serves on the national Board of Directors for American Trails and is past president of the Arizona Trail Association, a 790-mile border-to-border, non-motorized trail for hiking, horseback riding, mountain bicycling, and cross-country skiing. She also serves on the Maricopa County Trail Foundation and the Arizona State Horsemen’s Association, the state affiliate of the American Horse Council.

Governor Jane Dee Hull appointed Jan to a five-year term on the Governor’s Growing Smarter Oversight Council in March 2001, where she serves as the Chair of the Education and Communications Subcommittee. Jan is a member of the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Board, the City of Phoenix Design Review Standards Committee, and was Vice Chairman of the 2001 City of Phoenix Parks Bond Election Committee. Jan was also Treasurer of the 1998 Growing Smarter Proposition 303 and the 2000 Proposition 100 campaigns.

As an equestrian and trails consultant with Hancock Resources LLC, a sole proprietorship and woman-owned small business enterprise, Jan recently completed a comprehensive master planning project with Entranco, Inc. for the West Valley Recreation Corridor, a 42-mile linear park and trail system along the Agua Fria and New Rivers. She is currently a consultant with Todd & Associates for the City of Scottsdale Trails Master Plan, and recently completed the design of equestrian trailhead facilities at WestWorld in Scottsdale with Carter & Burgess, Inc., which received the 2003 Award of Merit honors from the Arizona Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Jan is currently the equestrian consultant for the City of Glendale Trails Master Plan with Todd & Associates, and is the equestrian consultant for the master plan of a 128-acre equestrian facility for the Town of Queen Creek Parks & Recreation Department with J2 Engineering and Environmental Design.

Jan is a featured speaker at national trails and equestrian symposiums, a freelance writer for national trails and equestrian publications, and a spokesperson for the trails community in local, state, and national legislative issues. Jan is the daughter of a veterinarian and has been an equestrian since she was three years old.

Jan is very active in the Arizona business community and serves on a number of Boards and Committees, including Phoenix Community Alliance, Arizona Coalition for Tomorrow, Arizona Association for Economic Development, and Valley Partnership. She was formerly an interior design instructor at Arizona State University in Tempe, and at Maricopa County Community Colleges in Phoenix. Jan is the Director of Marketing for Walsh Bros., a 200-employee office environments firm. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from Northern Arizona University in Art Education and a Master’s Degree from Arizona State University in Community Education. Jan was selected as one of the Top 25 Who’s Who in Private Companies in the Top 100 Today’s Arizona Woman in Business for five consecutive years, 1997 – 2001.
